{"id":820,"date":"2012-08-08T10:18:35","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T14:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/?p=820"},"modified":"2012-08-12T17:00:46","modified_gmt":"2012-08-12T21:00:46","slug":"the-greater-sin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/?p=820","title":{"rendered":"The Greater Sin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am participating in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danapittman.com\/small-groups\/blogging-through-the-book\/\">Blogging\u00a0 Through the Book<\/a>: <em>The Gospel of Yes<\/em> by Pastor Mike Glenn.\u00a0 This series was birthed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.danapittman.com\/\">Dana Pittman<\/a>, who is an amazing\u00a0 writer and speaker.\u00a0 I am honored to be partnering with her and her amazing team of writers.\u00a0 Every Wednesday we will be blogging our thoughts and insights from this book.<\/p>\n<p>Ever get the feeling God is trying to tell you something?\u00a0 Well, I&#8217;ve been feeling like that a lot lately.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been speaking to me through different avenues, one of them being, <em>The Gospel of Yes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>While reading Chapter two, I was pretty surprised to come across what Pastor Mike Glenn refers to as the greater sin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/?attachment_id=828\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-828\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-828 aligncenter\" title=\"sin\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/sin1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"312\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The greater sin is not trying.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When we don&#8217;t try, we don&#8217;t risk failure.\u00a0 We stay in our comfort zones. We choose the safest route in life.\u00a0 We avoid pain, suffering and struggle at all costs.<\/p>\n<p>But is that really living a full life?\u00a0 Is this what God desires for us?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells the famous parable of the talents.\u00a0 The master in the story entrusts three servants to oversee part of his wealth while he is away.\u00a0 When the master returns, he find two servants have done well and doubled what he had entrusted to them.\u00a0 The third servant, afraid of the master&#8217;s anger, buried the talent given to him and simply returns it unused and with no increase.\u00a0 The master is furious but not for the reasons we assume.\u00a0 He is not angry because the servant tried and failed or because the principal had produced no greater value.\u00a0 No, the master is angry because the servant simply <em>didn&#8217; t try<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This convicted me to the core.\u00a0 Personally, I have been burying my talents because of fear of man.\u00a0 What man might think of me, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Our faith in Him has to be greater than our fear in man.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lord keeps asking me to step out in faith and trust Him.<\/p>\n<p>He doesn&#8217;t want me or anyone hiding their talents.\u00a0 He wants to use our talents for His glory.<\/p>\n<p>He wants us to try, even if we fail.\u00a0 We have to act in faith and leave the results to Him.\u00a0 I know this is easier said than done.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>But if we don&#8217;t, we will never experience His freedom.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>God wants me, you and everyone to say &#8216;yes&#8217; to Him.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it is going to the mission field, forgiving someone, serving in a homeless shelter, mentor a child or whatever He put on your heart.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>He wants us to try because in doing so we learn to trust Him.\u00a0<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Is there something God has been asking you to do?\u00a0 Has He been asking you to step out in faith and try?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/?attachment_id=826\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-826\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-826\" title=\"Blogging-Through-the-Book\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Blogging-Through-the-Book-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Blogging-Through-the-Book-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Blogging-Through-the-Book-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.ordinaryservant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Blogging-Through-the-Book.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.danapittman.com\/small-groups\/blogging-through-the-book\/\">Blogging Through the Book<\/a> is a group of bloggers who literally blog while reading the book. It\u2019s different than merely reading a book and posting a review. We have a chance to read and share our thoughts in community.
